Lessard Bridge to stay closed until repairs made

An update from the MD of Bonnyville isn’t good news for those who use the Lessard Bridge. In April, the bridge was shut down when spring melting ice damaged the piles it sits on. By the beginning of May, officials from the MD and engineers were examining the bridge to determine what needed to be done to make it safe.

Earlier today, the MD announced that repairs will need to be completed to make the bridge safe for traffic. The MD says a 60 day consultation period between themselves and Alberta Environment officials will have to be taken. Officials from the MD figure a contract for the work won’t be awarded any earlier than September. The work should be completed by December 2018.

Barricades and traffic re-routing continue to be up near the bridge. The MD is reminding motorists to obey any posted signage and stay off the bridge.
