MD says Lessard Bridge may be closed for a while

The outlook doesn’t look very good for the Lessard Bridge. The bridge, located at Range Road 452, was closed late last month

after concerns grew from high water and shifting ice during the spring melt.

The MD had brought in an engineer to have a look at the bridge. They are saying that at least four of the bridge piles were damaged and repairs will have to be done before the bridge can open back up to the public. The MD is warning that repairs could take some time and may even begin in winter to help with “environmental concerns”. They expect to work with Alberta Environments and Parks as well as Federal Fisheries officials on the job.

In the mean time, the bridge and road have been closed from Township Road 624 and 624-A. The MD is reminding the public to follow all traffic control signs and barricades.
