On April 24, Bonnyville RCMP conducted a routine traffic stop in Kehewin, which quickly escalated when officers reported spotted a firearm in the vehicle, resulting in the arrest of all three occupants. Upon further investigation, police discovered a loaded 12-gauge shotgun, cocaine, and brass knuckles during a search of the vehicle.  

 

As a result of the incident, RCMP charged the three individuals involved.  

 

Shaylinn Badger, 28-year-old Cold Lake resident is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, possession of cocaine, and carrying a concealed weapon. Badger appeared before a Justice of the Peace and has since been released from custody pending further legal proceedings.  

 

Anthony Delorme, 38-year-old Lac La Biche resident is charged with, unlawful possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, possession of cocaine, carrying a concealed weapon, and three counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order. Delorme also appeared before a Justice of the Peace but has been remanded in custody as the legal process continues.  

 

Kirkland Wells, 26-year-old Cold Lake resident, is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, possession of cocaine, and carrying a concealed weapon. Like Badger, Wells appeared before a Justice of the Peace and was released from custody pending further proceedings.  

 

The arrests and charges underscore the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to maintain public safety and combat illegal activities within the community. Bonnyville RCMP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Six Albertans including from Vermilion, Plamondon, Smoky Lake, and Lac La Biche are enjoying some extra dollars after winning big in the provincial lottery.

A PLINKO chip drop, three THE BIG SPIN winners, and two THE BIGGER SPIN winners all under one roof at Century Casino in Edmonton on Thursday, May 2.

From Vermilion, John Russell Kelly chose THE BIG SPIN wheel and took home $400,000. Kelly received the scratch ticket as a gift and first learned he had won the game’s top prize while at work.

“I went to scan the ticket at the store, and everyone gathered around to watch,” he laughed. “I jumped up and down, hooting and hollering. I was just in total shock.” Kelly’s THE BIG SPIN ticket was purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart, in Vermilion.

Denis Bourassa, from Plamondon, dropped in his PLINKO chip and won $300,000 to become the community’s biggest winner in 20 years.

“It feels good,” the winner said. “I was happy to win $10,000. I was definitely surprised when the cashier checked my ticket.”

Bourassa purchased his winning ticket from LLB Esso Convenience at 10304 101 Ave in Lac La Biche on December 19. Bourassa said he has a couple ideas for his $300,000 windfall.

“I’m probably going to share this with my family. I’ll have to figure out how I’m splitting it all up.”

Dennis Sigbert Boucher, from Lac La Biche, spun his way to a $125,000 prize on THE BIG SPIN wheel.

Boucher said he was thrilled to discover THE BIG SPIN ticket he bought from Eddie’s Mart at 10251 101 Ave., Lac La Biche on January 5 won $10,000 and a date with THE BIG SPIN prize wheel.

“I hollered when I saw the win. I’ve been playing this game for a long while, and my wife and I couldn’t believe our eyes.”

Boucher said he is really looking forward to purchasing a new vehicle with his windfall.

David Goruk from Smoky Lake was a last-minute addition to the winning lineup. He won $100,000 on THE BIG SPIN.

“I was shocked… Gobsmacked, really. My wife and I are going to buy all new appliances and go on a very delayed honeymoon to Europe.”

Goruk purchased his ticket at Smoky Lake Centex at 4329 56 Street in Smoky Lake.

Also in winners’ row on THE BIGGER SPIN are Jason MacEachern of Eckville, who won $800,000, and Tom Jones from Foothills who won $1,000,000.

“It hasn’t really hit me yet, but I am very excited. It’ll be amazing to help out my family with this,” said the new millionaire from Foothills who bought his ticket from Co-op at 4705 49 Street in Barrhead on January 28.

The Smoky Lake RCMP are intensifying efforts to locate three suspects following a truck theft incident that unfolded near Vilna on April 22. While one individual has been apprehended, authorities continue their search for the remaining suspects. 

 

The sequence of events began when the Smoky Lake RCMP received a distress call regarding a break-in on Township Road 602 in Smoky Lake County. The caller reported witnessing three or more armed individuals entering their rural property and allegedly taking items from outbuildings.  

 

According to Cpl. Troy Savinkoff, the suspects, armed with long guns, were spotted by the victims during the theft. Subsequently, the perpetrators made off with the victims’ red 1997 Mazda B2300 pick-up truck bearing Alberta license plate LWAS380, along with another vehicle.  

 

Members of the Smoky Lake detachment managed to locate both vehicles, initiating an attempt to deploy tire deflation devices. However, one of the vehicles swerved towards an officer, narrowly missing him before getting stuck in a ditch.  

 

Following the incident, two suspects fled from the vehicle, later revealed to have been stolen from the Cold Lake area on March 30. Law enforcement promptly mobilized a comprehensive response, enlisting the assistance of St. Paul, Lac La Biche and Boyle RCMP detachments, along with K9 units, the Emergency Response Team, and the Eastern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit.  

 

During the pursuit, one suspect, identified as 21-year-old Philip Hope from Saddle Lake, was apprehended. Hope faces multiple charges including robbery with a firearm, assault on a peace officer with a weapon, mischief over $5000, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and flight from the police. He has been remanded into custody awaiting a future court date at the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort Saskatchewan.  

 

Despite this arrest, authorities continue their search for the remaining suspects, as well as the stolen red Mazda B2300. The RCMP urges anyone with information regarding the incident or the whereabouts of the suspects to come forward.

The Lac La Biche RCMP has issued a public appeal for assistance locating Shahzad Ahmad Naz, a 35-year-old male reported missing since March 21.  

 

Shahzad was last seen in Lac La Biche, raising concerns among authorities regarding his current whereabouts and well-being. It is believed that he may have travelled to the Edmonton area.  

 

Described as having a medium complexion, standing at 5 feet 5 inches tall, and weighing approximately 165 pounds, Shahzad has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black shirt, black jacket, and jeans.  

 

The Lac La Biche RCMP is urging anyone with information on Shahzad’s location or activities since his disappearance to come forward. They can be reached at the Lac La Biche RCMP Detachment by calling 780-623-4380. Alternatively, anonymously, individuals who wish to provide information can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or submit tips online at www.P3Tips.com. The “P3 Tips” app, available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, also allows anonymous tip submission.

A coordinated effort involving the Lac La Biche RCMP, supported by the RCMP Emergency Response Team, RCMP Police Dog Services, and RCMP East Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, led to the execution of a search warrant on March 15. This operation, conducted across two residences within Lac La Biche County, was initiated in response to a firearms complaint.

During the execution of the search warrant, law enforcement officials apprehended a male suspect with three outstanding warrants. Furthermore, the search yielded a significant cache of weaponry, including four firearms, a substantial quantity of ammunition, and a prohibited device.

Darren Emile Cadieux, a 48-year-old male of Lac La Biche, was taken into custody on existing warrants. However, he now faces additional charges related to the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and prohibited devices. These charges include but are not limited to uttering threats, resisting arrest, unsafe storage of firearms, possession of a weapon contrary to a court order, defacing serial numbers on firearms, possession of a prohibited device, and breach of conditional sentence orders.

Following a judicial review, Darren Cadieux was remanded into custody pending further legal proceedings. He is scheduled to appear before the Lac La Biche Court of Justice on March 18.

On February 24, Lac La Biche RCMP responded to a report of a break-and-enter in progress at a residence on Christy Creek Road in Beaver Lake around 4:15 a.m. Upon arrival, it was discovered that an argument that an argument has escalated, resulting in a male discharging a firearm. The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle before the authorities arrived.

Following the incident, patrols were initiated to locate the suspect vehicle. Shortly after, the vehicle was spotted speeding past the victim's residence. Lac La Biche RCMP successfully intercepted the vehicle and apprehended both occupants without any injuries to the public or officers.

During the investigation, law enforcement seized a bolt action rifle, ammunition, and a machete from the vehicle.

Tristan Bradley Campbell, a 27-year-old resident from Beaver Lake, faces 23 criminal code offences, including discharging a firearm while being reckless and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Additionally, a 16-year-old youth was arrested and charged with, pointing a firearm, failure to comply, and assault.

Campbell and the youth were brought before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody. Due to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the youth cannot be named. Both are scheduled to appear on February 27, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Boyle.

The Lac La Biche RCMP is seeking assistance from the public in identifying a suspect involved in a recent robbery incident.

On February 22, around 9:40 p.m. Lac La Biche RCMP responded to a report of a theft of alcohol from a downtown store. The suspects, described as two females, utilized bear spray against store employees before fleeing the scene in a dark-colored vehicle.

According to the investigation, one of the suspects, described as a female between 20 and 30 years old with a medium complexation, approximately 5’5” tall, and of a medium-heavy build, entered the store. She proceeded to take several bottles of alcohol from the shelf and then fled the premises while using suspected bear spray against two store employees.

Despite extensive patrols conducted by the Lac La Biche RCMP, the suspects remain at large.

The suspect is described as having black hair and was last seen wearing black Adidas track pants with red and white shoes.

The Lac La Biche RCMP is seeking public assistance following a reported break-in at a seasonal property on the north side of Lac La Biche on January 26th.

During the investigation, it was determined that approximately $70,000 worth of property was stolen. Among the items taken were ATVs, snowmobiles, utility trailers, and various tools, equipment, and sporting goods.
