Lac La Biche RCMP crack down on firearms offenses

A coordinated effort involving the Lac La Biche RCMP, supported by the RCMP Emergency Response Team, RCMP Police Dog Services, and RCMP East Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, led to the execution of a search warrant on March 15. This operation, conducted across two residences within Lac La Biche County, was initiated in response to a firearms complaint.

During the execution of the search warrant, law enforcement officials apprehended a male suspect with three outstanding warrants. Furthermore, the search yielded a significant cache of weaponry, including four firearms, a substantial quantity of ammunition, and a prohibited device.

Darren Emile Cadieux, a 48-year-old male of Lac La Biche, was taken into custody on existing warrants. However, he now faces additional charges related to the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and prohibited devices. These charges include but are not limited to uttering threats, resisting arrest, unsafe storage of firearms, possession of a weapon contrary to a court order, defacing serial numbers on firearms, possession of a prohibited device, and breach of conditional sentence orders.

Following a judicial review, Darren Cadieux was remanded into custody pending further legal proceedings. He is scheduled to appear before the Lac La Biche Court of Justice on March 18.
