Lakelanders, Shinny Season is Almost Here

Shinny season is on the way in the Lakeland. Work on two outdoor skating rinks has started in Cold Lake, with the projects completed in time for the start of shinny season. The Nelson Heights rink’s concrete pad and boards are being replaced while improvements to soil conditions are made at the south site. The south site is located in front of the Holy Cross Elementary School. The projects were kick-started by the City of Cold Lake Council, as Councillors recently voted to allocate an additional 220-thousand-dollars to the south rink project. The funding will be used to deal with the difficult subsurface conditions, install water service at the site for ice flooding and maintenance, install a lighting system at the rink and for a skate-shack style building. Work at the Nelson Heights outdoor rink is forecasted to finish by the end of September, with work at the south site expected to wrap-up by the end of October.
