Bonnyville Primary Care gets provincial bucks for new nurses

Bonnyville will be among other health care providers getting around $3 million from the province to hire more nurses. The announcement came yesterday from Minister of Health Tyler Shandro, who says it’s another promise kept by the UCP government.

“We’re delivering on our campaign commitment to add more nurse practitioners, to give people in underserved communities more access to primary care and other health services. Nurse practitioners are valuable, skilled health-care professionals, and we look forward to working with them to strengthen our publicly funded health system.”

Nurse practitioners can see and diagnose patients as well as order tests and prescribe medications. The Bonnyville Primary Care Network is listed among four other health care regions across the province taking in some of the cash.

The province says recruitment for the new positions in those areas will begin “soon.”
