Fish kill at Vincent Lake part of cycle

Dead Yellow Perch on the shores of Vincent Lake has some residents concerned. Members of the community say they’re seeing more fish washed up on the shores this year than in years past.

Officials at Alberta Parks are looking to calm fears. They say a “fish kill” is a naturally occurring phenomenon in the province’s lakes. Scientists say the blame can be levelled on the lake being overtly-productive in its nutrients, causing the population to drop.

Officials are also saying they expect the population to rebound with the fish that are left in the lake. It’s expected that the Perch population will be back to normal in the lake in three to five years.
