AUPE pushing to start Points West Cold Lake negotiations back up

The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees wants Points West Living Cold Lake to come back to the bargaining table. Roughly 40 seniors care workers have been on the picket line since they were locked out since December 16th.

Vice-president Mike Dempsey says they don’t want to be pressured into “quick-fix solutions that don’t address concerns about training, scheduling, and chronic short-staffing.”

Points West has criticized the union’s rejection of a proposal earlier this month, which led to the lockout. AUPE says it came with too much uncertainty, and wants negotiations to start up with the bargaining committee.

Replacement workers have been working at the facility in the meantime.
