Former Premier Jim Prentice Dead in Plane Crash

Former Alberta Premier Jim Prentice is confirmed to be one of four people who died in a plane crash in BC on Thursday night.

The small Cessna plane was on its way from Kelowna to Springbank Airport outside of Calgary when it quickly disappeared from radar.

Prentice was Premier from September 6th, 2014 to May 5th, 2015. He was the last Premier of a Progressive Conservative dynasty spanning over 40 years.

Prentice, who was 60, leaves behind his wife Karen, three children, and two grandchildren.

Lac La Biche Mayor Omer Mograhbi has released a statement online. “On behalf of Lac La Biche County, I wish to extend my condolences to the family and friends of Jim Prentice, who has been killed in an airplane crash. Mr. Prentice served Alberta in a number of roles, including as a Member of Parliament and as Premier. Another member of Mr. Prentice’s family also lost his life in the crash. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones as they cope with this terrible tragedy.
