MD Gauging Interest in Setting Up Rural Crime Watch/Citizens on Patrol

After a few citizens floated the idea to a couple councillors, the MD of Bonnyville’s Public Safety Department is looking to see if there’s interest in starting up a Rural Crime Watch or Citizens on Patrol group.

“If it is [something the public wants], then we’re going to have a public meeting at that time where they can ask questions and we can figure out exactly what we’re going to do,” says Public Safety Director Chris Garner. “This is very early in the process. There has to be involvement from the RCMP to provide a guidance and a liaison that works with the group. There’s no point in going to all those steps unless we know we have the interest from residents.”

If you’d like to express your interest in the idea, the MD encourages you to fill out the form at the following link: http://md.bonnyville.ab.ca/FormCenter/Public-Safety-7/Citizens-on-Patrol-60
