More than 200 students evacuated from Fort McMurray are continuing their school year at NLSD schools.
Nicole Garner with the division says the transition is going smoothly all things considered. “Our staff are doing a phenomenal job of making sure of making sure they have everything they need. Some schools packed a backpack full of school supplies, they’ve made arrangements for lunches for the kids and they’re helping out the families with whatever the students might need.”
There’s still plenty of space to take extra students in, who are still trickling in at a steady rate. The one exception is Wandering River, a school that only had 22 students to begin with and is now taking on 38 more. The division is looking into what extra resources they can supply there.
