NLSD To Transfer Old Central Elemantary Building to Catholic School Board

Northern Lights has decided to transfer the old Central Elementary School building in Lac La Biche to the Catholic School District.

The original plan was to hand over the Dr. Swift School building, but as it was built back when school boards and the provincial government both pitched into funding new buildings instead of just the government, the board had to go to the province to see if they’d be compensated. The province replied with no mention of compensation, supposedly stemming from the fact NLSD wanted to transfer the building, but not the land it sits on.

With this hatchet thrown into the plans, the division decided to transfer the Central Elementary building instead, giving LCSD a school in the Lac La Biche area. The fate of Dr. Swift remains to be seen.
