Prentice Government Focuses on the ‘Highway of Death’
Infrastructure in North Eastern Alberta has been addressed by the Premier. Jim Prentice took a commercial flight (yes a commercial flight…not a private flight as seen with the Redford government) to Fort McMurray Thursday (Oct.2) to announce his government will spend $71 million on the twinning of Highway 63. The highway which is the main corridor to the oilsands in the Wood Buffalo region, is used by thousands of haulers, industrial vehicles and local residents each day. The money will be spent on twinning the final stretch of Highway 63, covering 12 kilometres just north of the highway 55/63 junction and building a new inspection station. The work is expected to be complete by 2016.
