AJHL reacts as five Alberta teams officially joins BCHL

Five Alberta junior hockey teams have officially inked agreements with the British Columbia Hockey League, prompting a reaction from the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

The Brooks Bandits, Okotoks Oilers, Blackfalds Bulldogs, Sherwood Park Crusaders, and Spruce Grove Saints have all creased their participation in the AJHL since January24, following the announcement by the BCHL that these teams would be crossing the border to compete in the independent league.

On Thursday, February 1, the BCHL confirmed that the deal had been finalized and released a schedule of games for the Alberta teams from February 2 to 28 on its website, with details regarding the postseason to follow.

In response, the AJHL has voiced its support for the remaining 11 clubs, including the Bonnyville Pontiacs and the Lloydminster Bandits. The league anticipates an exciting conclusion to its 60th year despite the loss of the five franchises. However, it expresses satisfaction that the situation has been clarified for all parties involved.
