Cold Lake Minor Soccer Association prepares to host provincials

Cold Lake Minor Soccer Association is getting ready to host provincials at the beginning of July with their teams all getting the chance to compete.

Both Lakeland Cups were held to see which teams qualified for provincials held on July 7-9 at the soccer fields at the Energy Center. Cold Lake’s teams will qualify as the host city with Andrea Korecki the Cold Lake Minor Soccer Association Registrar saying the teams are really excited.

“The kids have been through a lot in the past few years, with covid and everything.”

A total of 6 Cold Lake teams are playing in provincials marking the first time both U13 boys and girls are heading to provincials. Both Cold Lake U13 teams won the Lakeland Cup this year. Korecki says the kids have worked very hard this year and are looking forward to playing.

“It is so much work. These kids work very hard and never quit even during Covid. All of the teams practice two or three times a week and travel weekly for games.” When asked about the goals of the teams, Korecki says they want to stay competitive and develop their players.

“We want them to work hard and be a competitive club in the province. We are considered a small town in a rural community. We are quite competitive when we play some of the big city teams who have a large player pool.”
