ALERT Edmonton conducted a joint investigation with Bonnyville RCMP that concluded with three search warrants being executed in Bonnyville on June 5. A total of eight firearms and three body armour vests were seized, in addition to an estimated $125,000 worth of drugs.
The investigation began in January and came in response to a number of fentanyl-related overdoses in the Bonnyville area. Investigators believe the accused were heavily involved in supplying fentanyl and cocaine to the region, and had strong ties to Surrey, B.C.
“In the past three months, Bonnyville has experienced suspected deaths linked to fentanyl and a number of overdoses,” said Staff Sgt. Luis Gandolfi. “Clearly this is a dangerous drug, and those that peddle it have brought unnecessary harm to our communities.”
The search warrants resulted in the seizure of an estimated $125,000 worth of drugs, which included:
391 fentanyl pills;
336 grams of methamphetamine;
411 grams of cocaine;
1.33 kilograms of a buffing agent;
$3,896 cash proceeds of crime;
6 rifles;
Norinco 5.56 assault rifle
Walther PPK prohibited handgun;
3 body armour vests.
Three people were arrested and are facing a combined 42 drugs and weapons related charges:
Douglas Wright, 28;
Bradley Wright, 33;
Roberta Wright, 53.
