Bonnyville Pontiacs coaches, staff and fans will get a chance to see the future of the team this weekend. The club is hosting an Identification camp at the C2 starting Friday that will give future Pontiac hopefuls and their parents a chance to meet with coaches, check out the arena and learn a bit about the club.
Bonnyville Pontiacs Assistant Coach Larry Draper says the players will learn more about how the team functions both on and off the ice.
“They’ll get to hear (Head Coach) Rick Swan talk about philosophy and how we integrate that into the culture so this weekend is the identification Camp. That doesn’t mean that some of these boys won’t be coming to our main camp because they certainly will be.”
Scrimmages and mini games will take place over the weekend as well as some lectures and presentations. Draper says he’s unsure how many of the boys will be headed to main camp but he knows that anything is possible in junior hockey.
“Building a Junior A hockey team in the AJHL is difficult because there is many moving parts. For instance, last year we thought we would have between three and five defencemen coming back and we had one.”
