A Lakeland crown prosecutor laid it on the line at a crime presentation held in Cold Lake, saying that more staff and court time is needed in the area. Jeffery Rudiak was on hand at last Thursdays meeting at the Lakeland Inn in Cold Lake. He says the staff of six sees almost 2000 files per prosecutor.
Rudiak, who works out of the Crown Prosecutors office in St.Paul that oversees most of the Lakeland, says part of the issue is getting and retaining staff. He mentioned that two prosecutors will be leaving the office soon, and can’t give a timeline on when they will be replaced. Rudiak says that since 2003, 26 staff members have left the office in St. Paul.
