Vera M. Welsh Elementary School finds new principal

Vera M. Welsh Elementary School has a new principal. Samear Abougouche has been appointed to the position after more than 20 years with Northern Lights Public Schools.

Abougouche graduated from J.A. Williams High School in 1990, and Superintendent Rick Cusson says he has deep roots in the community of Lac La Biche.

“Sam’s focus on relationship building and his strong connections in the community will further enhance the learning opportunities available to students at Vera M. Welsh Elementary.”

Current principal Dana Robb is retiring after serving nearly 40 years with the school division. The transition between the two will start this week.

“I look forward to working with students, parents and staff to ensure that Vera M. Welsh provides everyone with a great experience every time they walk through our doors,” Abougouche says. “It is exciting to be joining a great team of remarkably dedicated professionals who work hard to ensure our students grow academically, socially and emotionally every day.”

Abougouche is currently the assistant principal at Aurora Middle School.
