Canada 150 Mosaic Unveiled at C2

Bonnyville’s Canada 150 Mosaic – consisting of pictures taken by residents around the town – was unveiled at the C2 this past weekend.

The mosaic was a project taken on by the Bonnyville Friendship Centre, the Dove Centre, the Library, the Bonnyville Centennial Centre, the Bonnyville Learning Council and the Bonnyville Chamber of Commerce. The piece was completed thanks to funding from all three levels of government.

Bonnyville Mayor Gene Sobolewski and MD Reeve Greg Sawchuk were both present for the ceremony.

“Everybody, take a close look because you’re going to recognize a relative or a friend, or yourself,” Sobolewski encouraged attendees in his remarks.

While not every picture submitted wound up in the mosaic, Executive Director for the Friendship Centre, Lauri FitzPatrick says locals might find themselves somewhere on it even if they didn’t submit any pictures. “It’s because we also got a lot of  photos submitted from the newspaper and different organizations.”

The public first got a look at the mosaic during Bonnyville’s Canada Day celebrations on July 1st, but the C2 will be its permanent home.
