The City of Cold Lake has won some more hardware for its annual National Public Works Week celebrations.
“It’s amazing to see such recognition for the work that our Public Works staff do,” said Mayor Craig Copeland. “They work extremely hard throughout the year, and National Public Works Week is a chance for the community to come out and see all the different tasks that Public Works is responsible for.”
The city was awarded the Community Celebration Public Works Week Award from the Alberta Public Works Association.
“We applied for the award after expanding our celebrations from last year,” said General Manager of Infrastructure Services Azam Khan. “To be named as the winner really goes to show how appreciated our staff’s efforts are in the community. A big ‘Thanks’ goes out to our staff, and to the community for celebrating Public Works Week with us.”
Khan and Transportation Services Manager George Urlacher accepted the award on Wednesday in Red Deer at the American Public Works Association – Alberta Chapter Annual General Meeting.
This year’s Public Works Week in Cold Lake included a flag raising ceremony, a colouring contest for kids, a paint the plow event at two local schools, food drive, toxic round-up, community clean-up, a tour of the water treatment plant and an open house at the Energy Centre.
National Public Works Week takes place in May, and new events are currently in the works to be added to the 2018 celebrations.
“We want to keep the momentum going,” said Khan. “Our staff enjoy the opportunity to share the work they do with the residents they serve.”
