More Info From Bonnyville Census Released

More details are coming out about the results from the Town of Bonnyville’s municipal census conducted earlier this year.

CAO Mark Power mentioned that the census put the town’s population at 6,420 at a meeting last month. The town’s official statement today only changes that number by another two people.

The census went into more detail than just the big number. Stats on gender, age, household status, tenancy and what types of homes townsfolk are living in are set to be published soon.

The town decided to get to work on the census after the 2016 national census put the local population at 5,417. Council felt this figure was way off and worried that the lowball figure would hurt them when requesting federal and provincial funding. This new census suggests that Stats Canada was off by just over a thousand people.

The town encouraged people to fill out their census forms online so that enumerators wouldn’t have to knock on their door. The town says 32.48 percent of the community did so.
