Voyageurs Hockey Team Move Still Up in the Air

Portage College’s decision to move the Voyageurs hockey team from Lac La Biche to Cold Lake has met with some push back and might still be reversed.

The Portage College Board of Governors met on Thursday with two motions in regards to the Voyageurs Hockey Team. The first was to review the team’s move after being requested by Lac La Biche Mayor Omer Moghrabi to do so. A previous meeting had been held featuring both communities to give  their time lines, and their explanations of what they understood to be the sequence of events.  The understandings of the sequence of events was very similar from all parties.

The final decision has been referred back to President & CEO of the college,  Dr. Trent Keough, who will consult with his Executive, Manager of Athletics & Recreation and Manager of Community Relations for a final decision on or before Tuesday and inform the Board of Governors

The Board passed a second motion which will require Administration to keep the Board of Governors appraised of any business decision which has a broad community impact such as closing a campus or moving a program.
