Wildfire Risk in Lac La Biche Declared Very High

Alberta Wildfire says the wildfire hazard in Lac La Biche  is very high.

The forecast is for a high of 25 degrees, with humidity of 35 percent. There is also a chance of rain and thundershowers with lightning, and light winds at 15  kilometres an hour.  More showers are expected on Friday. The agency says fires caused by lightning are a significant concern at this time.  If lighting strikes without much in the way of rainfall, the chances are good that some wildfires may start.  Lightning strikes can stay active for up to three days, so patrols will be conducted in ares that got hit for several days following a storm.

Alberta Wildfire adds that there was one new wildfire reported today; grass burning in a ditch.  Even though the grass might look green, there is still a lot of dry undergrowth that is flammable.  So far this season the area has seen  49 wildfires.

14 crews, 14 helicopters, air tankers, heavy equipment and water trucks are on hand across the area to fight any wildfires tomorrow.
