Mograbhi Has Positive Meeting With McQuaig-Boyd in Lac La Biche

Lac La Biche mayor Omer Mograbhi says he had a very good meeting with Alberta Energy Minister Marg McCuaig-Boyd yesterday.

McCuaig-Boyd is traveling through some of the harder hit communities from the oil crash. Mograbhi says some of the topics discussed included renewable energy and pipelines. “Their stance is different from [the federal NDP.] They’re more aligned with the liberals. They vowed to work towards getting our oil to Tidewater, east and west.”

The meet and greet lasted about two hours from 9:30 to 11:30 and Mograbhi says the minister provided some good answers to their questions.

Although the meeting was constructive, Mograbhi is reluctant to say he’s optimistic going forward, “They don’t determine the price of a barrel of oil on the world market… it’s a trickle down effect. When Alberta’s not doing well, the rest of Canada isn’t doing well. I think it’s in their best interests to make sure Alberta does well.”

McCuaig-Boyd also met with leaders from Bonnyville and Glendon. More on that in the coming days.
