Lakeland readies for 5th annual Winterland Invitational aiming to score big for RMHC Alberta

In less than a month, the Lakeland region will become the epicenter of hockey excitement as 40 youth hockey teams descend for the eagerly anticipated 5th Winterland Invitational.

The event, scheduled for February 16th to 18th, promises not only to showcase thrilling hockey matches but also to rally an outpouring of support for Ronald McDonald House Charities Alberta.

In a press release, Oreen Skiba, Manager of Events at RMHC Alberta, underscored the significance of the Winterland Invitational as a pivotal component of their fundraising endeavors.

“The teams fundraise together, the parents and fans participate in raffles and a 50/50, and the overall awareness creates important donations for RMHC Alberta. On top of all of this, RMHC Alberta serves over 1,200 families annually and amongst the teams, we always hear about how their families or a family friend stayed at a Ronald McDonald House,” expressed Skiba.

The Winterland Invitational has become a staple on the regional sports calendar, uniting communities with the common goal of supporting families facing pediatric health challenges.

The tournament, utilizing the Bonnyville and District Centennial Centre, the Cold Lake Energy Centre, and the AG Ross Arena in Elk Point, will feature U9, U11, and U13 minor hockey divisions, attracting over 720 youth athletes and their families.

Serina Parsons, the Executive Director of the Bonnyville and District Chamber of Commerce, emphasized in the press release that the RMHC Winterland Invitational event is so much more than a fundraising event for an incredible cause.

“It’s an economic driver for our region and provides a boost for many local businesses. Of course, we love when our arenas are full and the spirit of hockey takes over, but we also love busy restaurants, full hotels, and rented venues. It’s important to consider the impacts events such as this have on the entire community, so please support this important initiative,” said Parsons.

The tournament organizers anticipate raising over $165,000 for RMHC Alberta over the Family Day long weekend, aligning with the charity’s mission. For more information on the Winterland Invitational please visit Winterland Invitational.
