Cold Lake Jets win semifinal and look to championship game

The Cold Lake Jets have claimed their ticket to the AFL champion game after defeating the Edmonton Elite in the semi-finals.

The Jets hosted the Elite at the Thomas Varughese Field last week and kept their winning streak at home alive beating the visitors 18 – 6. Teague Sherman the Jets’ Administrator among many other things says while the game was not perfect, the team still did great.

“I would say the score was close. We knew the plays we missed on offense were things we worked on and planned for.” Even with the slip-ups, Sherman says he is still very proud of how the team played, “we worked hard all week preparing after we watched them play in the quarter-finals and executed in all other levels.”

Sherman says #21 Daniel Nkonkomalimba stepped up and played running back and really made a difference in the game.

This win moves the Jets into the AFL final match against the Airdrie Irish who won their semi-final match against the Calgary Wolfpack 42 – 34. This is a rematch of last year’s championship game with the Airdrie Irish heading to Cold Lake for an exciting clash. The Irish are the only team to beat the Jets this season but Sherman says the Cold Lake team is ready and warmed up.

“We are up for the challenge and ready to show up to this important game.”

The game will start at 6 on Saturday, Aug. 19th with doors opening at 5.
