Five homes damaged following Wednesday blaze

Just before 3:00 a.m on the morning of July 12, 2023, Bonnyville Fire Station Five responded to a home in the 4700 block of 38a street due to reports of a structure fire.

Regional Fire Chief Dan Heney tells MyLakelandNow only the garage of the building remains, and the rest of the home was a complete loss. According to Heney, much of the neighbourhood suffered damages related to the fire.

“There were several nearby homes that were damaged due to the radiant heat,” Heney says. “There’s around four or five other homes that were affected by the fire,” he adds.

Speculation surrounding the incident has led residents and the homeowner to question the cause of the fire, but Chief Heney says the preliminary investigation will likely be the extent of the investigation.

“We can pinpoint the origin of the fire, but we can’t determine the cause of the fire,” Heney tells MyLakelandNow. “We don’t consider it suspicious at this time,” Heney confirms.
