H.E. Bourgoin Middle School hosts Pruning Workshop

H.E. Bourgoin Middle School will be hosting a Pruning Workshop presented by Joan Engler from E-Tree to raise money for the school’s Outdoor Spaces Project.

The workshop will take place on March 25 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the school and will cover topics like why pruning is important, what should be pruned, and how to prune. Engler will also share information on Plant Picks for 2023 including shade trees, privacy screening, fruit trees and shrubs, and ornamental shrubs.

The workshop is the start of the fundraiser for the school’s Outdoor Spaces Project to beautify the school grounds and enhance recreational opportunities for students and the community.

“Last year we asked our students to brainstorm ways to improve our outdoor space and they had great ideas about ways to make it more appealing and create opportunities for students to be more active,” said Assistant Principal Nicole Yadlowsky.

Suggestions from students, staff, and parents were all gathered to develop a plan and timeline for the project.

“This will be a multi-year project for the council and the fundraising foundation,” said Sarah Chileen, School Council Chair. “In addition to fundraisers like the pruning workshop, we will also be applying for grants and seeking out corporate donations for the project.”
