Kitscoty RCMP allegedly interrupt theft suspect in the act

Kitscoty RCMP has arrested one man after receiving a call about a suspicious vehicle later found to be stolen from Saskatoon.

The arrest was made on March 14 around 10:25 a.m. after RCMP identified a potential suspect and arrested him as he was getting in the vehicle. 41-year-old Joseph Merryfield a resident of Paradise Valley, Alta., was arrested and charged with possession of Stolen Property over $5000, Fail to comply with probation order, and Drive motor vehicle while unauthorized (TSA).

“In this case a call from the public regarding a suspicious vehicle led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle and the apprehension of an offender. This is an excellent example of the importance of reporting suspicious behaviour when it comes to combating small town/rural crime.” Says Sgt. Corey Buckingham, Kitscoty RCMP Detachment Commander.

Merryfield was held for a judicial interim release hearing. Following the hearing, Merryfield was released on a release order with court set for April 11, 2023, at Lloydminster Provincial Court.
