Lakeland residents will have to take a trip down to Lloydminster if they want a say in the provincial government’s “Fair Deal Panel”. The panel was announced by the UCP government as a way to hash out issues like provincial jurisdiction and Alberta’s role in confederation.
Town Halls around the panel are being hosted in places like Edmonton, Red Deer, Calgary and Lloydminster on January 13th.
Some of the ideas the government has thrown around include creating an Albertan Pension Plan instead of contributing to the federal plan in place as well as establishing a provincial police force and ending the Alberta Police Service Agreement with the Government of Canada.
One member of the panel is the former federal Reform Party leader and former Leader of the Opposition Preston Manning.
