Council waiting for Marijuana cheque from province

The Town of Bonnyville is waiting on some cash from the province with regards to legal pot. In their January 8th town council meeting, council said they’ve sent in an application for the Alberta Municipal Cannabis Transition Program. The plan allows for just under $40,000 in provincial funding for municipalities that are paying for their policing.

A letter from Minister of Municipal Affairs Shaye Anderson says Bonnyville will receive just over $20,000 this year and around $17,000 next year. Anderson says the money has to be used in programs that meet a certain guideline, such as keeping marijuana away from children.

The MCTP expects to dole out about $11 million in total.
