St. Paul Elementary School’s efforts to enhance its playground received a significant boost from the county of St. Paul.
Council approved a $5,000 sponsorship to support the school’s initiative to create a more accessible and stimulating space for physical activity, social development and creative play.
In a letter to council, dated November 4, St. Paul Elementary School principal Adrienne Dallaire emphasized the importance of upgrading the playground, which has served the school for years. The need for enhancements has grown as the student population increased from 350 in 2014 to 450 in 2024.
“This enhancement means an increase in accessibility for our students, which reinforces a safe and stimulating environment,” wrote Dallaire. The project is also aimed at benefiting the wider community, as the playground is located off St. Paul’s main street and is frequented by local residents.
The school’s Parent Fundraising council has been actively seeking donations from businesses and community members to fund the project since 2022. $76,000 has been raised as of October 28. The school hopes to secure a grant after reaching their fundraising target of $125,000.
Councillor Darrell Younghans supported the initiative, noting the playground’s broad use and community impact. “Enhancing the park is not a bad idea,” he said.
With the county’s $5,000 contribution, the school is one step closer to achieving its fundraising goal.
