The Reid Field House at the Cold Lake Energy Centre has undergone its first floor resurfacing since 2008.
“The field house has been open for over a decade. It was one of the first phases of the energy center,” says Cold Lake Mayor Craig Copeland.
“We have everything from trade shows to concerts and weddings, and the previous green floors were a bit of a challenge for some creators. So, with the transitions to the lighter grey event set up will become much smoother,” he adds.
The floor underwent renovations receiving a fresh urethane coasting and updated sports markings. Additionally, its color was transitioned from the original green to a versatile grey making it more suitable for hosting galas, fundraisers, and various special events.
The facility is equipped with marked lines to support various sports including badminton, pickleball, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, cross-court volleyball, and cross-court basketball.
Also added were lines for six sets of badminton and pickleball courts. Two additional basketball nets were also installed at the facility to increase the scope of programming.
Mayor Copeland said the new renovations will be a significant economic drive. Benefiting the restaurant and hotel industry in Cold Lake and contributing to the local community’s vibrancy.
The total project cost was just over $124,000.
