51st Avenue Construction Won’t Be Finished This Year

According to this week’s Bonnyville town council meeting, construction on 51st Avenue is likely not going to be finished until next year.

CAO Mark Power informed council that the construction company doesn’t think they’ll be able to get all the different sections of road being dug up finished by the October 15th deadline. “We would need fall to last until Christmas for the entire thing to get paved,” he explained.

In the meanwhile, Power expects at least three of the five sections of road open a the moment will be covered back up for the winter. If there’s any silver lining to be had, the construction company will be facing penalties for every day of work they’re over the deadline. In light of this, they currently have two crews working on the project to minimize them. When construction season returns next spring, 51st Avenue will likely become priority number one. Power says there’s realistically only a month of construction time left and that’s if they get lucky with the weather.
