Cold Lake council approves snow removal policy changes to include new streets

At its most recent meeting, Cold Lake City Council amended the Snow Removal and Winter Road Maintenance Policy.

The decision was made to reflect changes along Lakeshore Drive and new streets that are not yet identified on the snow removal maps.

“The policy was last revised in October 2022,” said Mayor Bob Mattice.

“Since then, the improvements on Lakeshore Drive have been completed and several new streets created in the community.”

Mattice added that the City wanted to make sure those new streets were formally included in the policy. With improvements to Lakeshore Drive, council decided to increase the level of service and have snow fully cleared and removed, as opposed to just being pushed to the side. Officials said this will help protect the landscaping and infrastructure.

The City said new residential streets were added to the Priority 5 (Grey) section of the policy to line up with other residential areas. These streets include:

  • Waterton Way
  • Fundy Way
  • 12 Avenue between 13 Street and 16 Street
  • Glacier Gate
  • Lakewood Way

Officials noted that although these streets were not officially in the policy until now, they were still maintained in previous winters by City staff.
