ASIRT investigating officer involved shooting in Cold Lake

Alberta’s police watchdog is investigating after a Cold Lake RCMP officer shot a person during a domestic weapons call Tuesday morning.

RCMP were called to the 5600 block of 54th Street at about 9:47 a.m. Aug. 4. Police say officers encountered a person armed with a weapon and one officer discharged their service weapon, striking the person.

The person was taken to hospital in stable condition. No officers were injured.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating the shooting, while the RCMP has launched a separate internal review of the police response, training, policies and the officer’s duty status.
