Cold Lake RCMP have arrested a man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant after a foot pursuit earlier this month.
On October 6, officers attended a home on 52 avenue to locate stolen property. “Upon arrival, members observed a known prolific offender, who had an outstanding Canada-Wide warrant for being unlawfully at large, flee from the back of the residence,” reads the RCMP release. “Cold Lake RCMP members observed that the male was in possession of a shotgun, resulting in the pursuit of this male on foot.”
The man was arrested following what police described as “a high-risk takedown” on 51 avenue.
RCMP identified the suspect as a 40-year-old who was wanted across Canada for being unlawfully at large. Officers also seized a loaded shotgun and several rounds of ammunition.
The suspect has been charged with obstruction, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited weapon with readily available ammunition without authorization, and possession of a firearm contrary to a firearms prohibition order.
He was remanded into custody following a judicial hearing and is set to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Cold Lake on October 15.
