The Lakeland Catholic School Division has completed the first phase of a project to plan for the future growth of education in the region.
As part of the first phase of the ‘Our Schools. Our Future.’ project, feedback was gathered at engagement sessions throughout September and October. These sessions brought together participants from St. Dominic Elementary School, Assumption Junior/Senior High School, and Holy Cross Elementary School.
Officials said the conversations held offered a chance to share information, hear different perspectives and indentify considerations for future educational planning.
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who took the time to participate,” said Superintendent Sheldon Germain. “Our staff and families care about their schools, and their perspectives are an important part of planning responsibly for the future.”
Germain added, “This work is about being proactive as Cold Lake grows, while ensuring Catholic education continues to meet the needs of the students and families we serve.”
The division is now set to review all the feedback and notes gathered at these sessions to start developing potential scenarios for further consideration over the fall and winter.
Then, in March 2027, the division will report back to the community and open a survey to gather additional comments, concerns, and suggestions.
A virtual ‘Community Report Back & Survey Launch’ is slated for March 23 and will be followed by further staff and school council engagement in April. The entire process is set to wrap up with board consideration and decision-making in May 2027.
