Extreme cold warning has been issued for the Lakeland area

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for a large part of the province, including the entire Lakeland region.

The warning, issued Sunday afternoon shortly after 3:30 p.m., predicts extremely cold wind chills between -40 and -45, which are expected to develop overnight. These conditions are expected to improve by Monday afternoon.

The warning points out the dangers of the extreme cold, especially for young children, older adults, people with ongoing health problems, those working or exercising outside, and those without proper shelter. It also advises residents to keep an eye on their pets, as the cold can be dangerous for animals too.

Residents can stay update by monitoring alerts for Environment Canada. Severe weather reports can be sent to [email protected] or shared on social media using #ABStorm.
