During the public question period of Cold Lake’s recent regular council meeting, Ray Cowell, owner of Wicked Watersport Rentals, made two significant announcements, the transfer of ownership of his business to Rob Ealey and his candidacy for the 2025 municipal election.
“After nearly 11 years of successful operation, I’m pleased to announce that Wicked Watersport Rentals is in the process of transitioning to a new owner here in the Lakeland,” Cowell stated.
Reflecting on the company’s contributions, Cowell highlighted its role in promoting tourism in Cold Lake. Offering a variety of watersport activities, including, paddle boards, kayaks, and the flyboard jetpack experience at Kinosoo Beach, Wicked Watersport Rentals has become a staple for both residents and visitors. Cowell noted the company’ resilience during the pandemic, introducing many Albertans to Cold Lake’s waters for the first time and encouraged repeat visits.
Cowell also acknowledged the partnerships that have supported his business, thanking the city of Cold Lake, Travel Alberta, and numerous local organizations for their collaboration over the years. He extended his gratitude to Mayor Craig Copeland, the council and the community for their ongoing support.
Introducing Rob Ealey as the new owner, Cowell praised Ealey’s background and vision. Ealey known for managing local businesses such as Clark’s General Store Eatery and the Cold Lake Golf and Winter Club, will also take over Kinosoo Ice Shack Rentals.
Concluding his announcement, Cowell officially declared his candidacy for the 2025 municipal election emphasizing how his military service, business understanding, and entrepreneurial spirit would contribute to his ability to serve the community in a new capacity.
Mayor Copeland commended Cowell for his impact on local tourism stating, “Thanks for all your commitment to the business down there at the beach and at the marina. You’ve done a great job in bringing tourists to the Lakeland.”
