Icy roads reported in the Lakeland Saturday night travel still discouraged

Bad road conditions gripped the Lakeland area overnight as a mix of rain and snow created icy highways.

The Elk Point Fire Department announced late last night that Highway 646 was closed from Range Road 61 to Range Road 44 due to hazardous driving conditions. Emergency crews reported over seven vehicles in ditches along the stretch, prompting authorities to urge residents to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.

An update from the Elk Point Fire Department confirmed that Highway 646 has been reopened after crews sanded the surface to improve traction. however, officials continue to strongly discourage non-essential travel, earning drivers to remain vigilant as conditions may still be challenging in some areas.

Despite dangerous driving conditions, no weather alerts have been issued for the area. Residents are advised to monitor local updates and drive cautiously if travel is unavoidable.
