Alberta Health Services has announced upcoming service disruptions at the Elk Point Healthcare Centre’s Emergency Department due to ongoing physician shortages.
The Emergency Department will be closed nightly from 7 p.m., to 8 a.m., on December 5-6 and December 8-9. In addition, the department’s regular weekly closure from 7 a.m. Wednesday to 8 a.m. Thursdays will remain in effect until further notice.
Daytime disruptions are also scheduled for Friday December 13 and Friday, December 27, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
During these closures, nursing staff will continue to provide on-site services, including triage, patient assessments, and referrals to alternate emergency departments in nearby communities.
AHS is encouraging residents to plan accordingly and seek medical attention at surrounding facilities during these closure periods if needed.
Efforts to recruit additional physicians to address the staffing shortages are ongoing.
