Bonnyville RCMP respond to 159 calls during week of November 22 to 28

The Bonnyville RCMP were kept busy with 159 investigations last week, addressing incidents from public intoxication to criminal activity and assaults.

On November 23, around 7:30 p.m. RCMP responded to a report of an intoxicated male refusing to leave a local business. Officers arrested the 72-year-old man from Kehewin for violating the Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis Act. He was held in custody until sober and issued a $120 violation ticket.

At 3:30 p.m. on November 25, an RCMP member patrolling Range Road 460 identified a truck known for past criminal activity. The officer stopped the vehicle and discovered the license plate belonging to an SUV that had been reported stolen. After further investigation revealed the truck lacked valid registration or insurance.

The 45-year-old female driver from Elk Point and her 45-year-old female passenger from Bonnyville were both arrested and charged with possession of stolen property. The passenger was also charged with drug possession, while the driver faced additional charges under the Traffic Safety Act, including driving without insurance, driving without registration and misuse of license plate.

The truck was towed, and both women were released at the scene with a court date set for January 21, 2025.

On the same day, at 10:45 p.m., RCMP were called to the Bonnyville Hospital where a discharged patient reportedly refused to leave and is alleged to have assaulted hospital security staff before fleeing.

An arrest warrant was issued for Dustin Yellowbird of Pigeon Lake. Yellowbird was taken into custody the next morning and faces charges including assault, uttering threats, and mischief over $5,000.

Bail for the 27-year-old was set at $2,000 and he is next scheduled to appear in court on December 17th.
