Smoky Lake RCMP quick response led to the arrest of six individuals following a break and enter call on November 7, at a rural residence in Smoky Lake County.
Around 5:31 p.m., a homeowner discovered and reported a break-in at their property. Smoky Lake RCMP, along with members of the RCMP Community Response Team, were conducting proactive patrols in the area and swiftly located a suspect vehicle with six occupants.
After further investigation, officers determined the vehicle was stolen, and all six individuals were taken into custody without incident. A search of the vehicle revealed suspected drugs and a large knife.
Five individuals from Goodfish Lake First Nation – Gordon Breast, 37, Justin Breast, 35, Jamie Klymiuk, 44, Clayton Halfe, 51, and Autumn Sparklingeyes, 21 – have been jointly charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, and break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offense. Clayton Halfe faces an additional charge of assault with a weapon, and Gordon Breast was arrested on two outstanding warrants from Edmonton Police service.
Following their arrest, Gordon and Justin Breast were both remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Boyle on November 12. Halfe was released on conditions and will attend a future court date, while Klymiuk and Sparklingeyes are scheduled for court on January 9, 2025, in Fort Saskatchewan. The sixth individual was released without charges.
Corporal Brendin Feere of Smoky Lake RCMP emphasized the importance of community vigilance, stating, “Because of the quick reporting by members of the public the Smoky Lake RCMP in correlation with the Alberta RCMP Community Response Team was able to attend quickly, and safely take 6 individuals into custody. Smoky Lake RCMP continues to encourage the public to report suspicious activity and behavior as well as incidents of property crime to the detachment immediately,” said Feere.
