Starting September 25, the Elk Point Healthcare Centre’s emergency department (ED) will experience weekly closures due to a lack of physician coverage, according to Alberta Health Services (AHS).
Until further notice, the ED will be closed every Wednesday from 7 a.m. to Thursday at 8 a.m.
Although the emergency department will not have a physician on-site during these hours, nursing staff will remain available to provide triage, assessments, and referrals to alternate emergency departments in surrounding communities. In cases of medical emergencies, residents are advised to call 911. EMS will continue to serve the area and coordinate with the local healthcare centre to ensure residents receive necessary care.
“This is a temporary measure, and AHS is working hard to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time,” stated AHS. The closures may be lifted if physician coverage is found.
For non-emergency health-related inquiries, residents are encouraged to contact Health Link at 811.
