On the night of September 23, at approximately 11:15 p.m., Lac La Biche RCMP responded to a report from a member of the public that a commemorative teepee located outside their detachment was on fire. Â
RCMP officers acted swiftly, using fire extinguishers to control the blaze, and with assistance from the Lac La Biche Fire department, the fire was extinguished before causing significant damage. Â
The teepee, a gift from the Beaver Lake Cree First Nation, symbolized the strong partnership built over the years between Lac La Biche RCMP and Indigenous communities they serve. The incident left the community shaken, as the teepee stood as a proud representation of unity and collaboration. Â
RCMP Forensics and fire investigators have collected evidence from the scene, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are seeking any witnesses or information related to the fire and are encouraging anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward.Â
