More than 260 community members, industry leaders, and alumni gathered at the sold-out “Feast on the Farm” event presented by Cenovus Energy on August 15, raising $82,000 in support of student-led initiatives at Lakeland College.
“Feast on the Farm is always such a highlight of our summer here at Lakeland,” said Dr. Alice Wainwright-Stewart, president and CEO of Lakeland College. She emphasized that the event is more than just a fundraiser-it’s a chance to connect with the community and support a cause that enriches student learning. “The support we received at this event helps us make our students’ experiences that much more dynamic, hands-on, and exciting,” she added.
The event showcased a panel of four students and recent graduates from various programs including business, agricultural sciences, university transfer, and interior design technology, who shared their unique experiences at Lakeland College. Entertainment for the evening was provided by rising country artists and Saskatchewan Country Music award winner Jordyn Pollard, an alumna of Lakeland’s university transfer program.
Craig Pardy, senior manager of operations and maintenance at Cenovus, highlighted the company’s commitment to fostering future-ready youth through experiential learning. “Developing future-ready youth through hands-on learning opportunities is a key social investment focus area for Cenovus,” he said, explaining why the company values its involvement with events like Feast on the Farm.
Since its inception in 2016, Feast on the Farm raised over $342,999, directly funding student-led projects that enhance experiential learning on campus. In the 2023-2024 academic year, student initiatives included a wellness symposium for students and community members, the first annual Border Beauty Showcase- a competition involving students and industry professionals in various hair and makeup challenges- and national and international trips for students to gain hands-on experience in their fields.
Feast on the Farm continues to be a pivotal event for Lakeland College, fostering a strong sense of community while supporting the next generation of leaders through innovative and hands-on educational opportunities.
