Cold Lake city council has approved several community grants and sponsorships for various local events and initiatives.
These approvals come as part of the July 2024 intake for the Community Recreation, Art, Cultural, and Heritage Investment Grant program, following recommendations from the Community Grant Advisory Committee. The council also took direct action on additional funding requests during the same session.
Among the grants awarded under the Community Recreation, Art, Culture, and Heritage Investment Grant program are $2,625 for the 2024 Volksmarch and Oktoberfest, organized by the 4 Wing Cold Lake Base Fund. The Filipino Association of Bonnyville and Cold Lake Alberta received $4,000 to support upcoming volleyball and basketball tournaments, while Special Olympics Lakeland was granted $2,000 for a Bocce tournament. The Wild North Eclectic Society was allocated $5,000 to fund two events, the 2024 Summer Rush and Punk in the Patch.
These grant approvals bring the total expenditures for 2024 under this program to $192,825, leaving $57,175 of the $250,000 budget for the remainder of the year.
In addition to these community grants, the city council also reviewed and approved several sponsorships and donations directly. The Bonnyville Indian-Metis Rehabilitation Centre was awarded $1,500 as a silver sponsor for the 1st Annual Walk 4 Wellbriety Walk-a-thon event in Bonnyville. The council also provided funding for four entries, at $125 each, and a $250 prize package for the 2024 APEGA Lakeland Branch Golf Tournament. Additionally, a $500 donation was made to the Village of Pierceland for its 2024 golf tournament, with council covering councillors’ entry fees at $100 each, should they choose to participate.
