A fire advisory has been put into effect in the Municipal District of Bonnyville, the Summer Village of Bonnyville Beach, Pelican Narrows, and the Village of Glendon.
The advisory, issued by the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority on Wednesday, August 14th, aims to mitigate the risk of human-caused wildfires in the area while still allowing residents and visitors to enjoy outdoor activity.
“We expect this fire advisory to reduce the number of human-caused wildfires in Alberta, while allowing Albertans to enjoy outdoor activities as much as possible,” reads the official statement from the fire authority.
Under the advisory, all burning activities without a valid fire permit are prohibited, all existing fire permits remain valid and new fire permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis. The use of fireworks and exploding targets is also banned.
The advisory allows for safe wood campfires on both private and public lands, including backyard firepits. Charcoal briquette barbecues, propane and natural gas-powered appliances, open flame oil devices, catalytic or infrared-style heaters, and indoor wood fires are also permitted.
